SP Performance provides California Proposition 65 warnings for products that require them. This page explains what Proposition 65 is and what a warning means.
What is Proposition 65?
Proposition 65, officially the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, became law in November 1986 when California voters approved it. It requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
California publishes a list of these chemicals and updates it at least once a year. The list has grown to include approximately 900 naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals since it was first published in 1987. The program is administered by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA).
What does a warning mean?
A warning means the business providing it is aware or believes that the product may expose you to one or more listed chemicals. By law, a warning must be given unless the exposure is low enough to pose no significant risk of cancer, or is significantly below levels observed to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.
