📋 Before You Begin
- 📋 Park on firm, level ground. Select Park, apply the parking brake, and chock both rear wheels.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Raise and secure the vehicle
- Use the 21mm wheel-nut socket and 1/2-inch breaker bar to loosen the passenger-front wheel nuts one turn.
- Use the 3-ton floor jack at the front-center lifting point. Position the 3-ton jack stands at the reinforced front-side support points.
- Lower the Sienna onto the stands and gently push the body to confirm stability.
- Use the 21mm socket to remove the passenger-front wheel.
Step 2: Remove the lower shields and wheel-well liner
- Use a 10mm socket and plastic trim-clip tool to remove the passenger-side lower splash shield and front wheel-well liner sections.
- Keep each fastener with its panel because the clips and bolts are not interchangeable.
- Photograph clip locations before removal.
Step 3: Drain the coolant
- Place the 15-liter drain pan beneath the radiator drain valve.
- Remove the radiator cap only after confirming the upper radiator hose is cold and soft.
- Use your fingers to open the radiator drain valve. Do not force the plastic valve with pliers.
- Use hose-clamp pliers to release the lower radiator hose only if additional draining is required.
- Close the drain valve by hand once flow stops. Do not overtighten it.
Step 4: Remove the upper access components
- Use the 10mm socket and plastic trim-clip tool to remove the upper engine cover and any intake ducting obstructing the passenger-side mount.
- Use hose-clamp pliers where spring clamps are fitted. Label disconnected hoses with the paint marker.
- Move wiring retainers aside with the plastic trim-clip tool. Do not pull on the wires.
Step 5: Remove the accessory drive belt
- Draw the belt routing or photograph it before removal.
- Use the 14mm socket and 3/8-inch breaker bar on the automatic tensioner. Rotate the tensioner slowly to release belt tension.
- Slide the belt off one pulley, then slowly return the tensioner to its stop.
- Remove the belt and inspect every pulley for looseness or roughness.
Step 6: Support the engine
- Install the 500kg engine support bar across the specified structural edges of the engine compartment.
- Attach its chain to the factory engine lifting eye and remove slack until the engine is supported without being lifted.
- If an engine support bar is unavailable, use the 3-ton floor jack and a broad wooden block only as secondary support beneath a strong engine support point. Do not concentrate force on the aluminum oil pan.
- Watch all wiring, coolant hoses, air-conditioning lines, and exhaust joints while adjusting engine height.
Step 7: Remove the passenger-side engine mount
- Use the paint marker to mark the mount’s installed position.
- Use the 14mm and 17mm sockets, extensions, and universal joint to remove the mount brackets and fasteners as access permits.
- Keep fasteners arranged by exact location and note which fasteners Toyota identifies as non-reusable.
- Adjust the engine support bar only enough to unload and remove the mount. Do not force the engine against the body.
- Final engine-mount torque varies by exact fastener position. Use the Toyota repair-manual torque diagram for the Sienna’s mount and bracket; do not apply one torque value to every mount bolt.
Step 8: Create water-pump working clearance
- Use the engine support bar to raise or lower the engine in small increments until the pump pulley and fasteners can be reached through the wheel opening.
- Use the 10mm socket and trim-clip tool to release any brackets identified in the working path.
- Stop immediately if a hose, harness, air-conditioning line, or exhaust component becomes tight.
Step 9: Remove the water-pump pulley
- Use the 12mm socket to loosen the pulley bolts while holding the pulley steady by hand.
- Rotate the pulley as needed and remove all pulley bolts, then remove the pulley through the available opening.
- Do not pry against the aluminum timing cover.
Step 10: Remove the water pump
- Place the drain pan beneath the pump because additional coolant will escape.
- Use the 10mm and 12mm sockets with the appropriate extensions to remove the pump fasteners.
- Record every fastener’s position and length on cardboard. Installing a long bolt in the wrong hole can damage the engine.
- Use the plastic gasket scraper to separate the pump carefully. Never drive a screwdriver between the aluminum sealing surfaces.
- Remove the pump, gasket, and O-rings. Confirm no old seal material remains in the engine.
Step 11: Prepare the sealing surfaces
- Use the plastic gasket scraper and a clean lint-free cloth to clean the mating surface.
- Do not use abrasive discs, powered wire wheels, or metal scrapers. Debris can enter the cooling system and abrasives can distort the aluminum.
- Use a clean cloth to remove coolant from the bolt holes.
- Compare the new and old pumps, including pulley offset, bolt pattern, and coolant passages.
Step 12: Install the new water pump
- Lubricate new O-rings lightly with fresh Toyota pink coolant. Do not use petroleum grease.
- Position the new gasket and pump without adding sealant unless the replacement-pump instructions explicitly require it.
- Start every pump fastener by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Use the 10-80 Nm torque wrench to tighten the pump fasteners evenly in several passes.
- Torque 6mm water-pump fasteners to 11 Nm (8 ft-lbs).
- Torque 8mm water-pump fasteners to 21 Nm (15 ft-lbs).
- Identify fastener size by shank diameter, not socket size. If the supplied pump or Toyota service information specifies a different value, follow that specification.
Step 13: Reinstall the pulley and drive belt
- Use the 12mm socket to install the pulley bolts evenly by hand.
- Use the 10-80 Nm torque wrench to tighten the pulley bolts in a crossing pattern. Torque to 21 Nm (15 ft-lbs).
- Route the new accessory belt according to the photograph or routing label.
- Use the 14mm socket and breaker bar to rotate the tensioner, place the belt over the final pulley, and release the tensioner slowly.
- Check that every belt rib is seated in every pulley groove.
Step 14: Reinstall the engine mount
- Use the engine support bar to align the engine naturally with the mount. Never draw the engine into position by tightening mount bolts.
- Start every mount fastener by hand, then use the 14mm and 17mm sockets to snug them.
- Use the appropriate torque wrench and Toyota’s fastener-location torque diagram to tighten each mount-to-body, mount-to-engine, and bracket fastener to its individual specification.
- Remove the engine support bar only after all mount fasteners have been fully tightened.
Step 15: Reassemble the vehicle
- Use the 10mm socket, hose-clamp pliers, and trim-clip tool to reconnect every bracket, hose, intake duct, shield, and liner.
- Use the 21mm socket to install the wheel and snug the nuts in a star pattern.
- Use the floor jack to remove the jack stands and lower the Sienna.
- Use the 40-200 Nm torque wrench to tighten the wheel nuts in a star pattern. Torque to 103 Nm (76 ft-lbs).
- Use the 10mm socket to reconnect the negative battery terminal. Torque to 5.4 Nm (48 in-lbs).
Step 16: Refill and bleed the cooling system
- Connect the cooling-system vacuum fill tool and air compressor according to the tool instructions. A vacuum-fill tool removes trapped air before drawing coolant into the system.
- Pull and hold vacuum to check for a major leak, then draw premixed Toyota pink coolant into the system.
- If filling without the specialty tool, use the plastic funnel and add coolant slowly through the radiator filler neck. Squeeze the upper radiator hose gently to release trapped air.
- Fill the expansion reservoir to the FULL mark. Do not mix Toyota pink coolant with universal green coolant.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ With the engine cold, use the 20psi cooling-system pressure tester and pressurize only to the radiator-cap rating. Inspect the pump, drain valve, hose connections, and radiator for leakage.
- ✅ Start the engine with the climate temperature set to maximum heat. Confirm the belt runs centrally and quietly.
