Your Forte’s 2.0L MPI engine does not use a mass airflow (MAF) sensor. It calculates airflow using a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor mounted on the intake manifold; the MAP sensor measures intake pressure so the engine computer can calculate fueling.
Assumption: This procedure is for the original U.S.-specification 2.0L MPI engine.

- 📍 Locate the MAP sensor on the intake manifold. It is a small electrical sensor inserted directly into the manifold, not a sensor in the air-filter duct.
- 📱 Take a picture of the connector and sensor position before removal.
- 🧼 Wipe loose dirt away with a clean lint-free cloth before opening the intake manifold.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the engine cover
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- If equipped, grasp the plastic engine cover at its mounting points and pull straight upward by hand.
- If a cover fastener is present, remove it with a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet before lifting the cover.
- Pull near the mounts to avoid cracking it.
Step 2: Locate the MAP sensor
- Use a clean lint-free cloth to wipe around the sensor where it enters the intake manifold.
- Confirm that you are working on the manifold-mounted MAP sensor rather than searching the air-intake tube for a MAF sensor.
Step 3: Disconnect the electrical connector
- Press the connector’s locking tab with your finger and pull the connector straight away from the sensor.
- If the tab is difficult to reach, gently depress it with a plastic trim tool. Do not pry on the wires.
- Inspect the connector for bent terminals, moisture, corrosion, or damaged wiring.
- Push inward first to release a tight latch.
Step 4: Remove the old MAP sensor
- Use a 10mm socket, 3-inch extension, and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to remove the MAP sensor retaining bolt.
- Grip the sensor body and gently twist it while pulling straight outward.
- Do not insert a screwdriver between the sensor and plastic intake manifold.
- Cover the opening temporarily with a clean lint-free cloth. Do not push the cloth into the opening.
Step 5: Compare and prepare the new sensor
- Compare the new and old sensors by hand. The connector, sensing tip, mounting tab, and seal position must match.
- Confirm that the new MAP sensor has an undamaged sealing O-ring installed.
- If the O-ring is supplied separately, install it by hand without stretching or twisting it.
- Do not spray cleaner, grease, or sealant onto the sensor tip or O-ring.
Step 6: Install the new MAP sensor
- Remove the clean lint-free cloth and verify that nothing has entered the opening.
- Align the sensor and press it straight into the intake manifold by hand until fully seated.
- Start the retaining bolt by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the retaining bolt to 7.8-9.8 Nm (5.8-7.2 ft-lbs).
- Do not overtighten the bolt because the intake manifold and sensor housing can be damaged.
Step 7: Reconnect the electrical connector
- Push the connector onto the new sensor by hand until the lock clicks.
- Gently pull on the connector body to confirm it is locked. Do not pull the wires.
Step 8: Reinstall the engine cover
- If equipped with push-on mounts, align the cover and press down by hand directly above each mount.
- If a cover fastener was removed, install it with the 10mm socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet. Tighten it only until snug unless its marked service specification is available.
- Check that no tools or cloths remain in the engine compartment.

- 🚗 Start your Forte and let it idle for several minutes.
- 👂 Check for rough idle, hissing, stalling, or an illuminated malfunction indicator light.
- 🔍 Verify that the MAP sensor is fully seated and its connector remains locked.
