🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Check Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- Connect the OBD-II scan tool to the diagnostic connector beneath the driver-side dashboard.
- Switch the ignition on without starting the engine and record every stored code.
- Codes such as P0107, P0108, or P0109 can involve the MAP circuit, but damaged wiring, a vacuum leak, or a poor connector can cause the same symptoms.
- Switch the ignition completely off and disconnect the scan tool.
Step 2: Locate and Inspect the MAP Sensor
- Use a plastic trim tool only if a harness retainer must be moved for access.
- Identify the small sensor inserted directly into the intake manifold and retained by one bolt.
- Check the connector for broken locks, corrosion, oil contamination, or damaged wires before replacing the sensor.
- Photograph the connector position before removal.
Step 3: Disconnect the Electrical Connector
- Wear safety glasses and nitrile mechanic gloves.
- Press the connector’s locking tab with your fingers, then pull the connector straight away from the sensor.
- Use the plastic trim tool gently if the locking tab is difficult to press.
- Do not pull on the wires or force the connector with a metal screwdriver.
Step 4: Remove the Old MAP Sensor
- Use the 8mm shallow socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to remove the sensor retaining bolt.
- Hold the sensor body and pull it straight out with a slight twisting motion.
- Remove the old O-ring if it remains inside the opening.
- Do not allow dirt to enter the intake-manifold opening.
Step 5: Install the New MAP Sensor
- Confirm that the new O-ring is correctly seated and lightly moisten it with a film of clean engine oil applied with a gloved fingertip.
- Align the sensor with the opening and press it straight into the manifold by hand.
- Start the retaining bolt by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Use the 8mm shallow socket and 1/4-inch drive inch-pound torque wrench to tighten the bolt to 4.4 Nm (39 in-lbs).
- Do not overtighten the small bolt or crack the plastic sensor.
Step 6: Reconnect the Sensor
- Push the electrical connector onto the new sensor until the locking tab clicks.
- Pull back gently on the connector body to verify that it is locked.
- Use the plastic trim tool to reinstall any harness retainer moved earlier.
Step 7: Clear Codes and Verify Data
- Connect the OBD-II scan tool and switch the ignition on without starting the engine.
- Clear the stored diagnostic codes, then start the engine.
- View MAP live data if supported. With the engine off, the reading should be close to local atmospheric pressure; at warm idle, it should drop substantially.
- No programming, coding, or infotainment procedure is required for MAP sensor replacement.
