🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the MAF sensor
- Open the hood and locate the engine air-filter housing on the driver side of the engine compartment.
- Follow the large air-outlet tube leaving the air-filter housing. The MAF sensor is mounted in this outlet near the air box and has an electrical connector attached.
- Use safety glasses and nitrile mechanic gloves while working around the intake.
Step 2: Disconnect the electrical connector
- Make sure the ignition remains off.
- Slide or lift the connector’s secondary lock, if fitted, using your fingers.
- Press the release tab and pull the connector straight off the sensor. Pull on the connector body, not the wires.
- Inspect the connector for bent terminals, moisture, corrosion, or damaged wiring.
- Do not pry against the plastic sensor housing.
Step 3: Remove the original sensor
- Use the Torx T20 screwdriver to remove the two MAF sensor retaining screws.
- Keep the screws in a safe place if the replacement sensor does not include new ones.
- Lift the sensor straight out of the air-outlet tube. Gently rock it by its plastic body if the sealing ring is snug.
- Do not insert tools into the opening or allow dirt to enter the intake tube.
Step 4: Inspect the mounting opening
- Use your gloved fingers to verify that the old sealing ring did not remain inside the opening.
- Check that the mounting surface is clean and undamaged.
- Do not spray cleaner into the intake tube. Do not reuse a torn, flattened, or missing sealing ring.
Step 5: Install the new MAF sensor
- Hold the new sensor only by its plastic housing. Do not touch the sensing element inside its airflow passage.
- Align the sensor in the same direction as the original. The mounting holes and airflow orientation should line up without force.
- Press the sensor straight into the opening until its flange sits evenly against the intake tube.
- Start both screws by hand, then lightly seat them with the Torx T20 screwdriver.
Step 6: Tighten the retaining screws
- Use the 1/4-inch-drive inch-pound torque wrench and Torx T20 bit socket to tighten both screws evenly.
- Torque to 1.5 Nm (13 in-lbs).
- Do not use foot-pounds. The plastic housing can crack if overtightened.
Step 7: Reconnect the electrical connector
- Push the connector onto the sensor until its release tab clicks.
- Return the secondary lock to its locked position, if fitted.
- Gently tug the connector body to verify that it is secure.
Step 8: Clear stored fault codes
- Connect the OBD-II scan tool to the diagnostic port below the driver-side dashboard.
- Switch the ignition on without starting the engine.
- Use the OBD-II scan tool to read and record any diagnostic trouble codes, then select the tool’s clear-codes function.
- Switch the ignition off and disconnect the scan tool.
- No MAF programming or special relearn procedure is normally required.

- ✅ Start the engine and let it idle for several minutes. A brief idle adjustment can be normal while the computer updates airflow corrections.
