๐Ÿ”ง CR-V - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

The cabin air filter is behind the glove box. Replacing it restores airflow and helps remove dust, pollen, and odors from the air entering your CR-V.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

โš ๏ธ Safety & Precautions

  • โš ๏ธ Turn the ignition off and remove everything from the glove box before starting.
  • ๐Ÿงค Wear gloves because the old filter may contain dust, pollen, or insect debris.
  • ๐Ÿ”‹ Battery disconnection is not required for this repair.
  • ๐Ÿ’จ Do not operate the blower motor while the filter is removed.

๐Ÿ”ง Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • LED flashlight
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

๐Ÿ”ฉ Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

๐Ÿ“‹ Before You Begin

  • ๐Ÿš™ Park your CR-V on level ground, shift into Park, and engage the parking brake.
  • โป Switch the ignition and climate-control blower off.
  • ๐Ÿงค Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฆ Empty the glove box completely so its contents do not fall out.

๐Ÿ”จ Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lower the Glove Box

  • Use the LED flashlight to locate the glove-box damper arm on the right side. The damper is the small plastic arm that lets the glove box open slowly.
  • Use your gloved fingers to slide the damper arm off its retaining pin.
  • Support the glove box with one gloved hand. Press both upper side walls inward with your gloved fingers until the stop tabs clear the dashboard opening.
  • Carefully lower the glove box toward the floor. It can remain attached at its lower hinges.
  • Press near the stops, not the hinges.

Step 2: Remove the Filter Cover

  • Use the LED flashlight to find the rectangular cabin-filter cover behind the glove box.
  • Use your gloved fingers to squeeze the locking tabs at both ends of the cover.
  • Pull the cover straight toward you and set it aside.

Step 3: Remove the Old Filter

  • Use your gloved fingers to pull the old cabin air filter straight out of its housing.
  • Use the LED flashlight to inspect the empty housing for leaves or loose debris.
  • Remove loose debris carefully with your gloved fingers. Do not push debris farther into the blower housing.
  • Note the airflow-direction marking before discarding the old filter.

Step 4: Install the New Filter

  • Inspect the new cabin air filter and locate its AIR FLOW arrow.
  • Use your gloved hands to insert the filter with the AIR FLOW arrow pointing downward.
  • Keep the filter pleats straight and guide the filter fully into the housing without crushing its edges.
  • Airflow direction matters more than printed label orientation.

Step 5: Reinstall the Filter Cover

  • Use your gloved hands to align the filter cover with the housing.
  • Push the cover straight into place until both locking tabs click securely.
  • Gently pull on the cover with your gloved fingers to confirm it is locked.

Step 6: Reinstall the Glove Box

  • Raise the glove box with your gloved hands.
  • Press both glove-box side walls inward until the stop tabs pass into the dashboard opening.
  • Release the sides slowly and confirm both stops are seated.
  • Use your gloved fingers to reconnect the damper arm to the retaining pin on the right side.
  • Open and close the glove box slowly to verify smooth movement.

โœ… After Repair

  • โœ… Start your CR-V and operate the climate-control blower at each speed.
  • ๐Ÿ‘‚ Listen for rubbing, fluttering, or clicking sounds that could indicate a loose cover or incorrectly seated filter.
  • ๐Ÿ’จ Confirm that airflow from the dashboard vents is strong and even.
  • ๐Ÿ“… Inspect the filter during routine service and replace it approximately every 15,000-30,000 miles, or sooner in dusty conditions.
