📋 Before You Begin

• 🚗 Park your Prius on level ground, select Park, and apply the parking brake.
• ⏻ Press the POWER button to switch the vehicle completely off.
• 📦 Remove every item from the glove box.
• 🔦 Use the LED flashlight to inspect the area behind the glove box before reaching inside.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lower the Glove Box

• Wear nitrile work gloves and open the glove box fully.
• Use the LED flashlight to locate the small damper arm attached to the outside of the glove box on the right.
• Support the glove box with one hand. Slide the damper arm sideways off its plastic mounting pin using your fingers.
• Press both glove-box side walls inward with your hands until the upper stops clear the dashboard opening.
• Lower the glove box slowly. Pull it slightly toward the passenger seat only if you need to disengage its lower hinges.
• Do not force the plastic side walls.

Step 2: Remove the Filter Access Cover

• Use the LED flashlight to find the rectangular cabin-filter cover behind the glove-box opening.
• Press the cover’s locking tab with your fingers, then pull the cover straight outward.
• Place the cover somewhere clean so its tabs are not damaged.

Step 3: Remove the Old Filter

• Put on safety glasses before disturbing the dusty filter.
• Use your gloved fingers to pull the old filter straight out without shaking it.
• Notice the old filter’s orientation before removal.
• Use the LED flashlight to inspect the empty housing. Remove loose leaves by hand, but do not push debris deeper into the blower opening.

Step 4: Install the New Filter

• Hold the replacement filter by its outer frame with your gloved hands.
• If the filter is marked UP, install it with the arrow pointing upward.
• If it is marked AIR FLOW instead, install it with the arrow pointing downward because airflow through the Prius cabin-filter housing travels downward.
• Slide the filter fully into the housing. Keep the pleats straight and avoid crushing the frame.
• Never rely on arrow direction without reading its label.

Step 5: Reinstall the Access Cover

• Use the LED flashlight to align the access cover with the filter housing.
• Engage the fixed tabs first, then press the cover inward with your fingers until the locking tab clicks.
• Gently pull on the cover to verify it is secure.

Step 6: Reinstall the Glove Box

• If the lower hinges were removed, align them by hand and press the glove box back into position.
• Raise the glove box while pressing both side walls inward with your hands so the upper stops pass into the dashboard opening.
• Use the LED flashlight to align the right-side damper arm, then slide it back over its mounting pin with your fingers.
• Open and close the glove box gently to confirm smooth movement.
