🔧 Forte - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

The cabin air filter sits behind the glove box and removes dust, pollen, and debris from air entering the passenger compartment. Replace it when airflow becomes weak, the vents smell musty, or about every 12 months under Sonīpat’s dusty driving conditions.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key before beginning.
  • Do not switch on the blower while the filter is removed.
  • Support the glove box as it lowers so its hinges are not overloaded.
  • Battery disconnection is not required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile work gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Compact LED work light
  • HEPA-rated handheld vacuum

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your Forte on level ground, apply the parking brake, and switch the ignition off.
  • Remove everything from the glove box.
  • Compare the new filter with the old filter before installation. The shape and sealing edges should match.
  • Look for an airflow arrow on the new filter. Air flows downward through the filter toward the blower motor.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and Empty the Glove Box

  • Use the compact LED work light to illuminate both inside walls of the glove box.
  • Open the glove box fully and remove its contents using your nitrile-gloved hands.

Step 2: Remove the Glove Box Stops

  • Locate the round stop knob on each inside wall of the glove box.
  • Use your nitrile-gloved hands to rotate each stop counterclockwise, then pull it inward and remove it.
  • Keep one hand under the glove box because it will be able to swing farther downward after both stops are removed.
  • Store both stops where they cannot roll away.

Step 3: Disconnect the Glove Box Damper

  • Use the compact LED work light to locate the small damper arm on the right side of the glove box.
  • The damper is the small arm that slows the glove box as it opens.
  • Support the glove box with one hand. Use your other nitrile-gloved hand to slide the damper loop sideways off its mounting pin.
  • Gently lower the glove box toward the floor. Do not force it past its natural stopping point.

Step 4: Remove the Filter Compartment Cover

  • Use the compact LED work light to find the rectangular cabin-filter cover behind the lowered glove box.
  • Use your nitrile-gloved hands to squeeze the cover’s retaining tabs inward.
  • Pull the cover straight outward and set it aside.

Step 5: Remove the Old Filter

  • Wear safety glasses before disturbing the dusty filter.
  • Use your nitrile-gloved hands to slide the old filter straight out.
  • Note the direction of the airflow arrow printed on the old filter. It should point downward.
  • Keep the dirty side level to prevent debris from falling into the blower housing.

Step 6: Clean the Filter Housing

  • Use the compact LED work light to inspect the empty compartment.
  • Use a HEPA-rated handheld vacuum to remove loose leaves and dust near the opening.
  • Do not push the vacuum nozzle deeply into the housing or touch the blower wheel.
  • Never use compressed air inside the housing.

Step 7: Install the New Filter

  • Use your nitrile-gloved hands to hold the new cabin air filter by its frame.
  • Position the filter so its AIR FLOW arrow points downward.
  • Slide the filter evenly into the housing. Do not crush or fold its sealing edges.
  • If the filter only says “UP,” install it with the UP arrow pointing upward.

Step 8: Reinstall the Filter Cover

  • Use your nitrile-gloved hands to align the cover with the filter housing.
  • Push the cover into place until both retaining tabs click securely.
  • Gently pull on the cover to verify that it is latched.

Step 9: Raise and Secure the Glove Box

  • Raise the glove box using your nitrile-gloved hands.
  • Reconnect the damper loop to its mounting pin on the right side.
  • Align both glove-box stops with their openings. Insert them and rotate clockwise until secured.
  • Open and close the glove box slowly to confirm smooth movement.

✅ After Repair

  • Start your Forte and run the blower through all fan speeds.
  • Check that airflow is strong and no rubbing, clicking, or fluttering sound comes from behind the glove box.
  • If the filter makes noise, switch the blower off and verify that the filter is fully seated and its cover is latched.
  • Inspect the filter every six months in Sonīpat’s dusty conditions and replace it about every 12 months or sooner if heavily soiled.
  • No scan-tool reset or infotainment procedure is required.
