🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Recover the Refrigerant
- Use the refrigerant identifier to confirm that the system is not contaminated.
- Connect the matching manifold gauge set and SAE-compliant refrigerant recovery machine to the high- and low-side service ports.
- Recover the entire refrigerant charge according to the recovery-machine instructions.
- Confirm both gauges remain at zero before disconnecting any refrigerant line.
- Never use gauge pressure alone to estimate charge.
Step 2: Disconnect the Battery
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to loosen the negative battery-terminal nut.
- Lift the negative terminal from the battery and isolate it so it cannot spring back.
Step 3: Raise and Support the Vehicle
- Use the floor jack at the specified front-center lifting point.
- Place the jack stands beneath the reinforced side support points and lower your Fit securely onto them.
- Gently push the vehicle before going underneath to confirm it is stable.
Step 4: Remove the Lower Splash Shield
- Use the Phillips No. 2 screwdriver, 10mm socket, and plastic trim-clip removal tool to remove the lower shield fasteners.

Step 6: Disconnect the Compressor Electrical Connector

Step 7: Disconnect the Refrigerant Lines

- Use a 10mm socket, extension, and ratchet to remove the suction- and discharge-line retaining bolts.
- Pull each line straight away from the compressor without bending or twisting it.
- Use A/C line caps and plugs to seal the compressor ports and open lines immediately.
- Remove and discard both old O-rings.
Step 8: Remove the Old Compressor
- Support the compressor with one hand.
- Use a 12mm socket, extension, and ratchet to remove the compressor mounting bolts.
- Note each bolt location and length during removal.
- Lower the compressor carefully through the underside of your Fit.
Step 9: Inspect for Internal Damage
- Inspect the old compressor ports and drained oil for shiny metal particles or dark, burned material.
- Use the graduated oil measuring cup to measure oil drained from the old compressor.
- If metal debris is present, stop. Replace the condenser and desiccant element and have the reusable lines professionally flushed.
- Do not flush the replacement compressor, expansion valve, or a parallel-flow condenser.
Step 10: Prepare the Replacement Compressor
- Keep the compressor upright and follow its supplied oil instructions.
- Use the graduated oil measuring cup to adjust the oil quantity to the compressor manufacturer’s instructions and the amount removed from the old unit.
- Use only the compressor oil specification printed on the under-hood A/C label.
- Turn the compressor hub by hand approximately ten full revolutions to distribute its oil.
- Too much oil reduces cooling and can damage components.
Step 11: Install the Replacement Compressor
- Position the compressor on its mounting bracket and start every mounting bolt by hand.
- Use a 12mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the mounting bolts evenly to 22 Nm (16 ft-lbs).
- Do not use an impact wrench on the compressor mounting bolts.
Step 12: Install the Refrigerant Lines
- Lightly coat the new O-rings with the correct compressor oil using a gloved fingertip.
- Install each O-ring in its proper line groove without stretching or twisting it.
- Remove the caps and plugs, then seat each line squarely against the compressor.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten each line retaining bolt to 9.8 Nm (87 in-lbs).
- Reconnect the compressor electrical connector by hand until its lock clicks.
Step 13: Reinstall the Drive Belt
- Route the belt around every pulley according to the routing recorded earlier.
- Use the 19mm serpentine-belt wrench to rotate the tensioner and slip the belt over the final pulley.
- Release the tensioner slowly and inspect every pulley to confirm the belt ribs are fully seated.
Step 14: Reinstall the Splash Shield
- Position the lower splash shield and install the clips with the plastic trim-clip removal tool.
- Install the remaining fasteners with the Phillips No. 2 screwdriver and 10mm socket.
- Tighten the small shield fasteners only until snug to avoid damaging the plastic.
Step 15: Lower the Vehicle and Reconnect the Battery
- Use the floor jack to raise your Fit slightly, remove the jack stands, and lower it to the ground.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal with the 10mm socket.
- Tighten the terminal until it cannot rotate by hand; do not crush the battery post.
