🔧 Accord - Side View Mirror Assembly Replacement
This procedure replaces the complete driver-side or passenger-side mirror assembly, not only the mirror glass. The interior door panel must come off so you can unplug the mirror and reach its three mounting nuts.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 1-1.5 hours per side
Assumption: The replacement assembly matches the original heating, turn-signal, power-adjustment, and blind-spot-monitoring features.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the Accord off and keep the key fob at least 15 feet away so the hybrid system cannot start unexpectedly.
- 🔋 Disconnect only the 12-volt battery. Do not touch orange high-voltage cables or connectors.
- 🪟 Lower the window before disconnecting the battery so the glass is protected and you can hold the door safely.
- 🧤 Wear gloves and safety glasses because door-panel clips can release suddenly.
- 🚫 Do not switch the vehicle on while the mirror wiring is disconnected. This can store body-control or blind-spot-monitoring faults.
- 📷 A blind-spot-monitoring mirror must use the correct feature-matched assembly. The radar sensor itself is located behind the rear bumper, not inside the mirror.

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park your Accord on level ground, select Park, apply the parking brake, and switch the vehicle completely off.
- 🪟 Lower the window on the side being repaired.
- 🔑 Move the key fob at least 15 feet away and wait three minutes for the vehicle’s control modules to shut down.
- 🔋 Open the trunk and disconnect the negative terminal from the 12-volt battery using a 10mm socket. Position the cable so it cannot spring back onto the terminal.
- 🧩 A trim-removal tool is a smooth plastic lever that releases panels without scratching them.
- 📦 Compare the old and replacement mirrors before installation. Confirm that the connector, wire count, mounting studs, camera or indicator, heating, and blind-spot warning light match.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Protect the Door Finish
- Apply 25mm automotive masking tape around the interior door-handle trim and along the upper edge where the mirror trim meets the door.
- Put the removed screws and nuts in a magnetic parts tray so they cannot fall inside the door.
Step 2: Remove the Inner-Handle Screw Cover
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to carefully open the small cover behind the interior door-release handle.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the screw behind the cover.
- Lift gently; the plastic marks easily.
Step 3: Remove the Door-Pull Screw
- Use a plastic trim-removal tool to lift the small cover or switch-panel edge inside the armrest pull area.
- If the window-switch panel lifts out, unplug its electrical connector by pressing the locking tab with your finger. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver only if the tab cannot be reached.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the exposed door-pull screw.
Step 4: Release the Door Panel
- Insert a plastic trim-removal tool between the door panel and metal door at the lower rear corner.
- Twist the plastic tool gently to release the first clip. Continue along the bottom and both sides until all clips are free.
- Lift the entire panel straight upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
- Do not pull the panel away sharply because cables and electrical connectors remain attached.
Step 5: Disconnect the Door Panel
- Support the panel with one hand while unplugging the remaining electrical connectors. Press each locking tab with your fingers or a small flat-blade screwdriver.
- Release the interior-handle cable from its bracket using needle-nose pliers if needed, then rotate the cable end out of the handle lever.
- Place the panel in a clean, safe area with its finished side facing upward.
Step 6: Remove the Interior Mirror Garnish
- Use a plastic trim-removal tool to pull the triangular interior mirror garnish straight inward from the door.
- Release its retaining clips without bending the garnish.
- Move the moisture barrier back only as far as required to reach the mirror connector and mounting nuts. Do not tear the barrier or remove its sealing adhesive.
Step 7: Disconnect the Mirror Wiring
- Press the mirror connector’s locking tab and unplug it by hand.
- Use a plastic trim-removal tool to release the wiring harness retainers from the door.
- Note the factory wire routing so the replacement harness will not interfere with the window mechanism.
Step 8: Remove the Old Mirror
- Support the mirror from outside the door with one hand.
- Use an 8mm socket, 6-inch extension, and 1/4-inch-drive ratchet to remove the three mirror mounting nuts.
- If your replacement uses 10mm mounting nuts, use the 10mm socket instead.
- Pull the mirror straight away from the door while carefully feeding its connector and harness through the opening.
- Do not allow a mounting nut to fall inside the door.
Step 9: Install the Replacement Mirror
- Confirm that the foam seal is correctly seated against the mirror base. Install a new mirror mounting foam seal if the original is torn, compressed, or missing.
- Feed the new harness through the door opening and place the mirror studs through their mounting holes.
- Start all three nuts by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Use the correct 8mm or 10mm socket and a 2-20 Nm torque wrench to tighten the nuts evenly. Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
- Do not overtighten the nuts because the mirror base or door sheet metal can be damaged.
Step 10: Connect and Route the Wiring
- Route the harness exactly like the original and secure every retainer by hand.
- Push the mirror connector together until its lock clicks.
- Keep all wiring away from the window glass, regulator, and moving linkage.
- Press the moisture barrier back into its original sealing adhesive using your gloved fingers.
Step 11: Reinstall the Interior Garnish
- Align the garnish clips with their holes.
- Press the garnish into place using the palm of your gloved hand until every clip locks.
Step 12: Reinstall the Door Panel
- Reconnect the interior-handle cable and all electrical connectors by hand.
- Check the door-panel clips. Replace broken clips using a plastic trim-removal tool and needle-nose pliers.
- Hook the top edge of the panel over the window ledge, then align the clips with their holes.
- Press around the panel perimeter with the palm of your gloved hand until all clips engage.
- Install the door-pull and interior-handle screws using a Phillips #2 screwdriver. Tighten them until snug; do not overtighten plastic mounting points.
- Reconnect the window-switch panel and press it into place by hand.
- Close the screw covers and remove the automotive masking tape.
Step 13: Repeat on the Other Side
- Use the same tools and procedure for the opposite mirror.
- Keep the driver-side and passenger-side assemblies separate because they are not interchangeable.
✅ After Repair
- 🔋 Reconnect the 12-volt battery negative terminal using a 10mm socket and ratchet. Tighten it securely without crushing the terminal.
- 🪞 Switch the Accord to ON and test mirror movement in all four directions.
- 💡 Test the mirror turn signal, heating function, and blind-spot warning indicator if equipped.
- 🚪 Confirm that the interior handle, door lock, window switch, speaker, and courtesy light operate correctly.
- 🪟 Reset the automatic window function if it no longer works: close the window fully, then hold the switch in the UP position for at least one second.
- 🛣️ Drive slowly and check for wind noise or vibration. A loose base usually indicates an incorrectly seated foam seal or uneven mounting-nut tightening.
- 📷 If the replacement includes a LaneWatch camera or another mirror-mounted camera, professional aiming or calibration may be required before relying on the displayed image.
💰 DIY vs Shop Cost
