🔧 Accord - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replace both front wiper blades when they streak, chatter, split, or leave unwiped areas. Your Accord uses different blade lengths on each side, and its wiper arms must first be moved into the maintenance position.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-25 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Do not open the hood while the wiper arms are raised; the arms can strike the hood.
- 🛡️ Never release a raised wiper arm without a blade attached. The metal arm can snap down and crack the windshield.
- ✋ Hold each arm securely while removing and installing its blade.
- 🚫 Do not manually force the arms upward from their normal parked position because they can contact the hood.
- 🔋 Battery disconnection is not required.

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park your Accord on level ground, select Park, and engage the parking brake.
- 🌧️ Make sure the windshield is wet or clean before the final test. Never operate new blades across dry dirt.
- 📦 Remove the new blades from their packages and keep them separated by side.
- 🧼 Use the 500mm microfiber cleaning cloth to clean the windshield around the resting blades.
- 🔑 Keep the keyless remote inside the vehicle while setting the maintenance position.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Move the Wipers into Maintenance Position
- Switch the vehicle to ON mode, then switch it completely off.
- Within 10 seconds after switching it off, pull the wiper control lever upward to the MIST position and hold it for at least 2 seconds.
- The wipers will move upward and stop in their maintenance position.
- No tool is needed for this step.
- Repeat the sequence if the arms do not move.
Step 2: Protect the Windshield
- Place the 600mm × 900mm padded windshield protector across the glass beneath both blades.
- Wear the nitrile work gloves and ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses.
- The protector cushions the windshield if an arm accidentally falls.
Step 3: Raise the Wiper Arms
- Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield by hand.
- Lift the passenger-side arm second.
- Raise each arm only until it remains supported. Do not bend or twist it.
- Always raise the driver side first.
Step 4: Remove the Driver-Side Blade
- Hold the driver-side arm firmly with one gloved hand.
- Locate the small locking tab where the blade connects to the arm.
- Press and hold the locking tab by hand.
- While holding the tab, slide the blade toward the base of the wiper arm until it releases from the arm’s hook.
- Rotate the blade slightly and guide it off the hook by hand.
- Carefully rest the bare arm against the 600mm × 900mm padded windshield protector.
Step 5: Install the New Driver-Side Blade
- Confirm that you have the 26-inch driver-side blade.
- Hold the arm above the 600mm × 900mm padded windshield protector.
- Guide the arm’s hook through the opening in the blade adapter by hand.
- Slide the blade toward the outer end of the arm until the locking tab clicks.
- Pull gently on the blade by hand to confirm it is locked.
- Make sure the rubber wiping edge faces the windshield and is not twisted.
Step 6: Replace the Passenger-Side Blade
- Use the same hand-release method to press the passenger blade’s locking tab.
- Slide the old blade toward the base of the arm, rotate it, and remove it from the hook.
- Keep the bare arm above the 600mm × 900mm padded windshield protector.
- Install the 16-inch passenger-side blade by guiding the hook through its adapter.
- Slide the blade into place by hand until the locking tab clicks.
- Pull gently on the blade to confirm it is secure.
Step 7: Lower the Wiper Arms
- Lower the passenger-side arm gently onto the windshield first.
- Lower the driver-side arm second.
- Do not let either arm spring against the glass.
- Remove the 600mm × 900mm padded windshield protector.
- Lower the arms in reverse raising order.
Step 8: Return the Wipers to Their Parked Position
- Switch the vehicle to ON mode.
- Operate the wiper control lever once by hand.
- The arms should sweep and return beneath the hood line.
- Switch the vehicle off after confirming both arms park normally.
Step 9: Clean and Inspect the Blades
- Use the 500mm microfiber cleaning cloth to wipe the windshield clean.
- Inspect both blade adapters visually and confirm their locking tabs remain fully engaged.
- Check that neither rubber edge is folded, twisted, or trapped beneath its frame.
✅ After Repair
- 💧 Apply windshield-washer fluid and test the wipers at low and high speeds.
- 👀 Confirm both blades sweep smoothly without streaking, skipping, or contacting each other.
- 🔍 Verify the blades return completely beneath the hood line when switched off.
- 🧽 If a new blade streaks, clean the windshield and wipe the blade rubber with a damp microfiber cloth.
- 🛠️ No programming, calibration, scan tool, or battery reset is required.
