🔧 Pathfinder - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing both front wiper blades is a simple maintenance job that requires no disassembly. Your Pathfinder uses conventional hook-style wiper arms, commonly called J-hook arms because the end curves like the letter “J.”
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition and wipers off before touching the wiper arms.
- 🛑 Replace one blade at a time so the blade sizes are not mixed up.
- 🪟 Never let a bare metal wiper arm snap against the windshield; it can crack the glass.
- 🔋 Battery disconnection is not required.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Thick microfiber towel
- Safety glasses
- Clean nitrile gloves

Replace both front blades as a pair. Make sure the blades include adapters for standard J-hook wiper arms.
📋 Before You Begin
- 🚗 Park your Pathfinder on level ground, select Park, and apply the parking brake.
- 🔑 Turn the ignition off and verify that the wiper switch is in the OFF position.
- 🧼 Clean loose dirt from the lower windshield so it cannot scratch the glass.
- 📏 Keep the 26-inch blade on the driver side and the 17-inch blade on the passenger side.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Raise the driver-side wiper arm
- Put on the safety glasses and clean nitrile gloves.
- Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it remains upright.
- Place the thick microfiber towel on the windshield directly beneath the raised arm.
- The towel cushions the glass if the metal arm accidentally drops.
Step 2: Release the driver-side blade
- Rotate the blade until it sits roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm.
- Locate the small locking tab where the blade adapter meets the curved J-hook.
- Press the locking tab by hand while sliding the blade downward, toward the base of the wiper arm.
- Once the adapter clears the end of the hook, rotate the blade and guide it out through the hook opening.
- Lower the bare arm gently onto the thick microfiber towel.
- Never leave a bare wiper arm standing upright.
Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade
- Confirm that you have the new 26-inch driver-side blade.
- If supplied separately, snap the blade manufacturer’s J-hook adapter into the new blade by hand.
- Raise the arm from the thick microfiber towel.
- Guide the arm’s hook through the large opening in the blade adapter.
- Slide the blade upward into the curved hook until the locking tab clicks.
- Pull gently downward on the blade by hand to verify that it is locked.
- Rotate the blade into its normal position and lower the arm slowly onto the windshield.
Step 4: Raise the passenger-side wiper arm
- Move the thick microfiber towel beneath the passenger-side wiper arm.
- Lift the passenger-side arm away from the windshield until it remains upright.
- Keep control of the arm throughout removal.
Step 5: Remove the passenger-side blade
- Rotate the blade approximately perpendicular to the arm.
- Press the adapter’s locking tab by hand.
- Slide the blade downward toward the arm base until it clears the J-hook.
- Rotate the blade and guide it out of the hook.
- Lower the bare arm carefully onto the thick microfiber towel.
Step 6: Install the new passenger-side blade
- Confirm that you have the new 17-inch passenger-side blade.
- Install the supplied J-hook adapter by hand if it is not already fitted.
- Raise the arm and guide its hook through the blade adapter opening.
- Slide the blade upward into the hook until you hear or feel a click.
- Pull gently downward on the blade by hand to confirm that the lock is engaged.
- Rotate the blade into its normal position and gently lower the arm onto the windshield.
Step 7: Inspect both installations
- Use your gloved hands to verify that each rubber wiping edge faces the windshield.
- Check that both adapters sit fully inside their J-hooks.
- Remove the thick microfiber towel from the windshield.
- Remove any protective plastic covers from the new rubber wiping edges.
✅ After Repair
- 💧 Apply windshield-washer fluid using the vehicle’s washer control.
- 👀 Operate the wipers at low speed and confirm both blades move smoothly without striking each other or the windshield trim.
- 🧼 Check for streaking, skipping, or unwiped areas. Verify the adapters again if either blade chatters or sits unevenly.
- ♻️ Recycle the old blades where rubber-and-metal recycling is available.
