๐Ÿ”ง Sienna - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Your Sienna uses a 28-inch driver-side blade and a 20-inch passenger-side blade. Each blade connects to a J-shaped hook at the end of the wiper arm and can be replaced without removing any fasteners.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes

โš ๏ธ Safety & Precautions

  • โš ๏ธ Turn the ignition and windshield wipers off before lifting the arms.
  • ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Place a thick towel over the windshield because an unprotected metal arm can crack the glass if it snaps down.
  • โœ‹ Replace one blade at a time so the other blade provides a position reference.
  • ๐Ÿ”‹ Battery disconnection is not required.

๐Ÿ”ง Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87.1 rated)
  • Protective towel (24 x 48-inch minimum)

๐Ÿ”ฉ Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front driver-side windshield wiper blade (28-inch) - Qty: 1
  • Front passenger-side windshield wiper blade (20-inch) - Qty: 1

Replace in pairs for consistent visibility and wiping performance.

๐Ÿ“‹ Before You Begin

  • ๐Ÿš Park your Sienna on level ground and switch the ignition completely off.
  • ๐ŸŒค๏ธ Make sure the windshield is cool and dry.
  • ๐Ÿงฝ Clean dirt away from the wiper arms and lower windshield.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฑ No infotainment menu, scan tool, or wiper service mode is required.

๐Ÿ”จ Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Protect the Windshield

  • Put on the ANSI Z87.1-rated safety glasses.
  • Lay the 24 x 48-inch protective towel across the windshield beneath the driver-side blade.
  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm until it remains raised.
  • Do not let the bare arm spring back against the glass.

Step 2: Remove the Driver-Side Blade

  • Rotate the blade so it sits nearly perpendicular to the wiper arm.
  • Find the small locking tab where the blade adapter meets the J-shaped hook. The adapter is the plastic connector between the blade and arm.
  • Press the locking tab with your thumb while sliding the blade downward, toward the base of the arm.
  • Move the blade around the open end of the hook and remove it.
  • Keep the 24 x 48-inch protective towel under the exposed arm.
  • Compare old and new connectors before installation.

Step 3: Install the 28-Inch Driver Blade

  • Remove the packaging and protective cover from the 28-inch driver-side blade.
  • If the new blade includes several adapters, use the preinstalled J-hook adapter. Do not force an incorrect adapter onto the arm.
  • Pass the armโ€™s hook through the large opening in the blade adapter.
  • Slide the blade upward into the hook until the locking tab clicks.
  • Pull gently downward on the blade to verify that it is locked.
  • No fasteners are used, so there is no torque specification.

Step 4: Lower the Driver-Side Arm

  • Hold the arm securely with one hand.
  • Use the 24 x 48-inch protective towel to keep the glass protected while slowly lowering the blade onto the windshield.
  • Confirm that the rubber wiping edge rests flat and is not twisted.

Step 5: Replace the Passenger-Side Blade

  • Move the 24 x 48-inch protective towel beneath the passenger-side blade.
  • Lift the passenger-side arm away from the windshield.
  • Rotate the blade, press its locking tab, and slide the blade out of the J-shaped hook.
  • Insert the 20-inch passenger-side blade into the hook and slide it into place until it clicks.
  • Pull gently on the blade to confirm that the adapter is locked.
  • Slowly lower the arm onto the windshield.
  • No fasteners are used, so there is no torque specification.

Step 6: Check Both Installations

  • Use the 24 x 48-inch protective towel to wipe fingerprints from the windshield around both blades.
  • Verify that both adapters are fully seated and both rubber edges lie flat.
  • Remove the towel before operating the wipers.

โœ… After Repair

  • ๐Ÿ’ง Apply windshield-washer fluid and operate the wipers at low speed.
  • ๐Ÿ‘€ Check that both blades move smoothly without lifting, chattering, striking each other, or touching the windshield trim.
  • ๐Ÿ” If a blade shifts or separates from the arm, turn the wipers off immediately and reseat its adapter.
  • ๐Ÿงผ Clean the new rubber edges with a damp cloth if they leave light streaks during the first test.
