This procedure replaces the window regulators inside both front doors. The door panels, moisture barriers, and window glass must be supported and moved out of the way before each regulator can be removed.

- 📋 Park your Sentra on level ground, select Park or neutral, apply the parking brake, and lower both front windows until the glass mounting bolts are visible through the inner-door access openings.
- 📋 If a window will not move, support its glass first. The regulator may need to be cut or unbolted before the glass can be raised by hand.
- 📋 Switch the ignition off and remove the key.
- 📋 Open the hood. Use a 10mm wrench to disconnect the negative battery terminal, isolate the cable, and wait at least three minutes.
- 📋 Complete one door at a time so the assembled door can serve as a reference.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Protect the Door and Remove the Switch Panel
- Use painter’s tape along the painted upper edge of the door and around the trim-panel contact points.
- Use a plastic trim-removal tool to lift the rear edge of the window-switch panel.
- Lift the panel carefully, press each connector lock, and unplug the window-switch connector.
- On the driver’s side, unplug every switch-panel connector without pulling on the wires.
Step 2: Remove the Door-Panel Fasteners
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to open the screw cover behind the interior door handle.
- Use a Phillips No. 2 screwdriver to remove the screw behind the handle.
- Use the Phillips No. 2 screwdriver to remove the screw exposed beneath the switch panel.
- Keep each door’s fasteners in a separate container.
Step 3: Remove the Front Door Trim Panel
- Starting at a lower corner, use a plastic trim-removal tool beside each retaining clip and pull outward until the clips release.
- Work around the sides and bottom. Do not lever against the middle of the panel.
- Lift the panel straight upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
- Support the panel and disconnect any remaining courtesy-light connector.
- Release the interior-handle cable from its bracket, then rotate the cable end out of the handle lever.
- Set the panel face-up on a clean surface.
- Pull beside clips, not between them.
Step 4: Open the Moisture Barrier
- The moisture barrier is the plastic sheet that prevents rainwater inside the door from reaching the trim panel.
- Use a plastic scraper to separate the butyl sealant slowly around the barrier’s lower and side edges.
- Fold the barrier upward without tearing it. Do not cut the barrier or cover the door’s drain openings.
Step 5: Support and Disconnect the Window Glass
- Confirm that the two glass-clamp bolts align with the access openings.
- If adjustment is needed, temporarily reconnect the switch and negative battery cable using the 10mm wrench. Keep hands clear, move the glass into position, switch the ignition off, disconnect the battery again, and wait three minutes.
- Use a 10mm socket with ratchet and extension to loosen and remove the two glass-clamp bolts.
- Lift the glass fully by hand. Use several long strips of painter’s tape over the top of the door frame to hold the glass securely.
- Do not remove the glass unless it cannot be secured safely.
Step 6: Remove the Old Regulator
- Press the lock and unplug the window-motor electrical connector.
- Use a 10mm socket with ratchet and extension to remove the regulator-rail and motor mounting bolts through the service openings.
- Hold the assembly while removing its final bolt so it cannot drop inside the door.
- Fold the regulator rails inward as necessary and guide the assembly out through the largest lower service opening.
- If the replacement regulator does not include a motor, transfer the original motor with the specified fasteners. For a beginner repair, a complete regulator-and-motor assembly is recommended.
Step 7: Install the New Regulator
- Compare the new and old assemblies. Confirm that the connector, rail layout, glass carriers, and mounting points match.
- Guide the new assembly through the service opening without bending its cables or rails.
- Start every regulator and motor mounting bolt by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the regulator and motor mounting bolts to 7 Nm (62 in-lbs).
- Plug in the window-motor connector until its lock clicks.
Step 8: Attach and Test the Glass
- Use the 10mm wrench to reconnect the negative battery cable temporarily.
- Reconnect the window switch. Keep hands and tools out of the door, then move the regulator carriers into alignment with the glass.
- Switch the ignition off. Disconnect the negative battery cable with the 10mm wrench before placing your hands inside the door.
- Remove the painter’s tape and lower the glass evenly into both carriers. Confirm the glass is fully seated and level.
- Start both glass-clamp bolts by hand. Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten them evenly to 6 Nm (53 in-lbs).
- Reconnect the battery and switch temporarily. Operate the window through one complete up-and-down cycle while watching for tilting, binding, cable noise, or contact inside the door.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable again before reassembly.
- Stop immediately if the glass tilts.
Step 9: Reseal the Moisture Barrier
- Use a plastic scraper to remove loose or contaminated sealant while preserving clean reusable material.
- Apply automotive butyl sealing tape anywhere the original sealant no longer adheres.
- Press the moisture barrier firmly around its complete perimeter. Route wiring through the original openings and leave the door drains unobstructed.
Step 10: Reinstall the Door Trim Panel
- Replace damaged trim-panel clips by hand.
- Reconnect the interior-handle cable and confirm its outer casing locks into the bracket.
- Reconnect the courtesy-light connector, if equipped.
- Hook the trim panel over the upper window ledge. Align every clip before pressing around the panel perimeter by hand.
- Use a Phillips No. 2 screwdriver to reinstall the handle and switch-panel screws until snug. Do not overtighten screws threaded into plastic.
- Close the screw cover. Reconnect the switch wiring and press the switch panel into place.
Step 11: Repeat on the Opposite Front Door
- Repeat Steps 1-10 on the other front door using the same listed tools.
- Keep the left and right regulator assemblies separate; they are not interchangeable.
Step 12: Reconnect the Battery
- Confirm all connectors and both trim panels are installed.
- Use a 10mm wrench and torque wrench to tighten the negative battery-terminal nut to 5.4 Nm (48 in-lbs).
- Do not overtighten the terminal.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Switch the ignition on and test each front window from its own switch and from the driver’s master switch.
- ✅ If automatic operation does not work, close the window fully, release the switch, then pull and hold the switch upward for at least three seconds. Lower and raise the window once more to verify operation.
- ✅ Open and close each door while checking that the glass remains aligned and does not rattle.
- ✅ Confirm the locks, mirrors, speakers, interior handles, and courtesy lights work.
- ✅ Pour a small amount of water along the outside of each window. Check for water entering the passenger compartment; water draining from the bottom of the door is normal.
- ✅ Reset the clock and saved audio settings if they were cleared during battery disconnection.
